I have to list this book first because it is the book that completely changed my life. This book speaks on so many levels to every person. For me, it was the inspiration to lead a healthier life. This is The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted And the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss, And Long-term Health by Dr. T. Colin Campbell. Dr. Campbell has a long and distinguished career, which he details at length in this book. Knowing all of that makes him very reliable indeed. The China Study was the biggest, most comprehensive nutrition study ever conducted. This book details the findings of this study – and surprisingly, it is so well-written and easy to read that you’ll forget you’re reading about a scientific study at all! Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal by Eric Schlosser was probably the first book I ever read pertaining to health and diet. It rocked my world. Since reading this book I have never again touched anything purchased from a McDonald’s or Burger King – not even a salad! This is Healthy at 100: The Scientifically Proven Secrets of the World’s Healthiest and Longest-Lived Peoples, which is also by John Robbins, who I mentioned above. John Robbins is the heir to the Baskin-Robbins ice cream empire, but after a childhood spent eating ice cream and being sick the whole time, Robbins gave up his whole inheritance to pursue a healthy diet and lifestyle. I find his dedication beyond inspirational. In this book he studies secrets held by all of the longest-lived societies in the world. Want to live to an old age and be healthy?
